The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), represented by its Director General, Navin Beekarry, proceeded to the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with agencies depository of information relevant to the enforcement of the Declaration of Assets Act 2018 (DoA Act), as amended, on Thursday 03 September 2020. The institutions concerned are:

  1. The Civil Status Division (CSD), represented by Mr. W.M. Ayelou, Registrar
  2. The Corporate and Business Registration Department (CBRD), represented by Mrs M. S. Lai Kan, Deputy Registrar; and
  3. The National Land Transport Authority (NLTA), represented by Dr. K. Reesaul, Road Transport Commissioner.

With the enactment of the DoA Act, the ICAC has been bestowed with additional responsibilities, functions and powers to receive, disclose, verify and monitor declaration of assets. To ensure the smooth implementation of the Act, the cooperation and collaboration of certain agencies is crucial.

The MoUs would give effect to the provision of timely exchange/sharing of information and official documents; information gathering on the existing platforms or online databases; and the sharing of relevant intelligence that will enable the ICAC to take necessary actions in furtherance of its responsibilities under the law.
